Michael Chabon born May 24, 1963) is an American author and "one of the most celebrated writers of his generation", according to The Virginia Quarterly Review.
Bittersweet news for Cory Doctorow today, as author Michael Chabon is reportedly in talks to re-write Magic Kingdom, Disney's film in which the amusement park goes all delightfully Night at the Museum screwy. Right now Chabon is only chatting about the project with director Jon Favreau, but if negotiations work out with the studio, the author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay would be reworking a script from Ron Moore--the man who re-fashioned Battlestar Galactica into something with an under-40 fanbase--taking it in whatever new direction Favreau has in mind. A direction involving the Spinning Teacups as a metaphor for confusion about Jewish identity, perhaps.
Lest you think Chabon taking such a gig is in some way uncharacteristic for the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, let me remind you that he also wrote Disney-Pixar's John Carter of Mars script, and did a draft of Spider-Man 2. The Hollywood Reporter adds that he's also "penning on the book for Broadway-bound Dumbo musical," so it sounds like he'll have some experience writing for the characters, too. The "characters" being the cars in the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride, come to life, thus becoming actual Dumbos. That'll be a hell of a scene
